What
is the appropriate temperature for a sauna?
Temperature range depends on user's preference but is typically
between 150 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit. Also, the higher you sit in a
sauna (upper bench versus lower bench), the hotter the temperature will
be.
How long
should I stay in the sauna?
Use common sense as to what feels comfortable. Typically, stay in
the sauna for 10-15 minutes, step out and cool off, then return to the
sauna for another "inning." Repeat as desired. Don't overdo it. Set the
temperature and humidity level to your comfort level. If you begin to
feel uncomfortable, leave the sauna and cool off. Always consult physician
if concerned.
Can
I pour water on the rocks on Finnleo's heaters?
Yes, absolutely. Not only is it okay, it is an essential part of
the sauna experience.
What
should I do after my sauna?
Take a shower or bath to cleanse your skin of salts and residues
left behind. A cool rinse will close your pores and leave you feeling
refreshed. Don't forget to moisturize your hair and skin with a quick
shampoo and a lotion rubdown. Drink water, mineral water, fruit or vegetable
juice to replace lost fluids.
What
if I fall asleep in my sauna?
Each Finnleo sauna heater has a built in timer which will automatically shut the sauna heater off (unless using a commercial unit which is on all day).

SAUNA HEALTH BENEFITS
What
about health problems?
Consult your physician if you have a history of heart problems, high
blood pressure or other health concerns.
What
is the #1 most common benefit mentioned by sauna users?
Relaxation.
Does
using a sauna help me lose weight?
A typical sauna session can burn up to 300 calories*. This will cause
your body to lose water which may result in a temporary weight loss. (*Richard B. Pearce, PhD, Sauna vs Steam, SHAPE, February 1987)
Can a
sauna cure a cold?
Probably not but it's certainly a help. Since the body relies on
heat to fight off viruses, many people have experienced a greater sense
of well-being by "sweating out" their cold.

SAUNA CONSTRUCTION
Does
the sauna need a drain?
No, it is not necessary, but it may be more convenient for cleaning
purposes.
Why
are saunas only recommended to be 7' in height?
Since heat rises, it is recommended to build a sauna no higher than
7' in height to avoid heating up wasted space.
What
kind of floor is appropriate in a sauna?
Cement, tile, some vinyls - anything that will not absorb water and
is easy to clean periodically. Never use carpet.
How do
I determine the size of the sauna heater needed?
Multiply the room length, by the width and by the height to calculate
the cubic footage. Then find the correct heater on the Finnleo heater
sizing chart.
What
makes a Finnleo sauna heater different than others?
The Finnleo sauna heater is constructed with triple wall stainless
steel. Many other brands use 2 walls or use other materials such as galvanized
aluminum. Also, the Finnleo heater offers one of the largest rock capacities
of any heater on the market. This allows for a more efficient heat and
a softer steam when water is poured over the rocks.
What
types of rocks are best for sauna usage?
Rocks should be an igneous form of rock. In this family of rocks
would be peridotite, olivine and vulcanite. Finnleo uses vulcanite because
it is the cleanest, has a large surface area and has less mineral deposits.
Smooth river rocks are unsafe for sauna usage and should not be used.
Why
do you recommend Nordic White Spruce and Abachi?
Together, these two woods make your sauna a beautiful, low-maintenance
haven. Nordic White Spruce is tight-grained and creates a clean, spacious,
contemporary look. When heated, it emits a subtle forest scent. It resists
staining, discoloration and odor absorption. Abachi, a light wood that
remains comfortable to the touch at high temperatures, resists staining
and will not splinter. The combination gives a light and airy feeling
to the room. The heat reflects off the walls as opposed to being absorbed
into them.
What
is the average cost to operate?
Though rates vary by region and climate, a 6 kW heater will cost
about $4/month when used 3 times per week. A 2.1 kW heater would use about
$1.50/month.
What
is the average heat-up time for a sauna?
A sauna typically heats up in 30-45 minutes when the heater is properly
sized. During this time period the rocks will be properly heated - for
soft heat and soft steam - and the wood interior will be comfortably heated,
too. (Note...outdoor saunas in cold climates or during winter may take
longer to heat up. Saunas heat up to 100 degrees in an hour).
What
ventilation is needed for a sauna?
It is recommended to have a cool air intake under the sauna heater
as well as an air circulation vent on an opposite or adjacent wall. The
air circulation vent should be located beneath the top bench to avoid
heat escaping. When the air circulation vent is open, the sauna will have
up to 6 air rotations per hour.
What
is needed to place a sauna outdoors?
- a place to put it
- a non-moisture absorbing surface
- electrical power
- a covered patio or a pitched roof for sauna
- recommended to treat the exterior of sauna
For outdoor use, Finnleo offers the Sisu or
Patio Series saunas with roof kits or the
Outdoor Saunas in the "Metro" or "Lakes" design.
What
other size saunas do you have?
The Sisu and Custom
Cut saunas are available in any shape or size. The Designer
Series saunas may also be modified into different sizes if needed.
